2018 Domaine Saint Saturnin de Vergy Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits Chardonnay White Wine

A Chardonnay from the heart of the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits — genuine Burgundy terroir at an altitude of 300 to 400 metres, without the price of a Village or Premier Cru site.

Taste
Colour: Pale yellow with greenish highlights.
Nose: Expressive, lemony and mineral, with fine notes of dried fruit.
Palate: Fresh and aromatic, with lingering aromas of white blossom and a pleasantly toasty finish.

Production
The vines grow at between 300 and 400 metres of altitude in the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits, above Gevrey-Chambertin, west of the Corton woods — on limestone soil with some marl and clay. Harvested by hand.

The grapes are pneumatically pressed immediately after the harvest, and fermentation takes place under temperature control at 16 °C in stainless steel, followed by 10 months of maturation in oak casks that have already been used between one and five times — for structure without a dominant oak note.

At the present time (2026), this 2018 is fully mature.

A versatile partner for food: with poultry (braised or grilled), veal in sauce, baked, braised or raw fish, shellfish — and on the cheese board with Camembert, Brie, blue cheese, goat's cheese, Gruyère or Gouda. Served at 10–12 °C.

Domaine Saint Saturnin de Vergy runs a 58-hectare winery in the heart of the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits, in the small village of Bévy — named after a chapel that stands near the ruins of the Château de Vergy as the last surviving building. The vines are trained high to protect the buds from the colder ground and from late frosts. A vineyard area that was once almost forgotten has made a remarkable comeback since the 1950s — part of the broader renaissance of the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits and Hautes-Côtes de Beaune. As a Bourgogne AOC, this Chardonnay offers authentic, unvarnished access to genuine Côte de Nuits terroir at a considerably more affordable price than Village or Premier Cru sites in the same area.
