VINEYARDS: From our family-owned vineyards in Monforte (Mosconi) since the 2015 vintage. This wine has always been traditionally produced by our family from grapes from the Barolo appellation. This is the classic "formula" used by the old Barolo families to produce a wine that combines the unique characteristics of the different vineyards and terroirs of the Barolo area.
WINEMAKING: In stainless steel; skin contact and maceration for approximately 25-30 days. AGING: In oak "Botti" for approximately 30 months; a small amount in French oak.
TASTING: A classic Barolo. Excellent structure, harmony, and elegance. Soft tannins and balanced fruit. Approachable, yet with very long aging potential. Barolo is a great wine that, because it has no additional indication on the label, should not simply be called a "basic" or "normal" Barolo. Note: James Suckling 98/100 points "Incredibly perfumed with unique aromas of white truffles, peaches, dark berries and dried flowers. Fresh and bright. Full-bodied, very silky tannins and a long and beautiful finish. So progressive and seamless. Great. First vintage of this single vineyard wine. Only 5,000 produced. It starts drinking in 2023." - (January 6, 2019)Since 1881, the winery founded by Pio Cesare has stood for the highest level of quality and tradition in the production of the famous wines from the Langhe area near Alba. Pio Cesare was one of the very first wine producers who believed in the potential and quality of Barolo, Barbaresco, and Barbera, and in the possibilities of Piedmont. Since the mid-19th century, Pio Cesare has been one of the top addresses in Piedmont.
