- Nose: Powerful apple notes of apple tea, apple must and peel, plus maple syrup, honey, cinnamon and nutmeg; after a brief alcoholic sharpness, old grass; overall, spiced honey.
- Palate: Very spicy and powerful at first, then bittersweet apple peel and cider with noticeable oak, tingling red chilli, diluted honey and peanut skins.
- Finish: Long and still warm, growing sweeter with honey and malt sugar, candied apple, salty toffee and sea spray; the oak recedes.

In 2015, Mars and Chichibu joined forces for a pioneering project and exchanged casks for the first time. These were stored in the climatic zones of both distilleries – from moderately warm to alpine – and were blended on site to create the hitherto unique Blended Malt Japanese Whiskys Mars Whisky Malt Duo 2021.
