Model Adriana Karembeu didn't just want to lend her face to a champagne – she wanted to help create it. Together with cellar master Isabelle Tellier, she produced a gold-coloured bottle with equally golden contents.
The house
Tsarine was created in 1991 by Chanoine Frères, a champagne house in Reims with roots going back to 1730. The name honours Tsarina Anna Ivanovna, who once brought champagne to the Russian imperial court and was enamoured of French culture. The distinctive, slender curved bottle deliberately recalls the architecture of great Russian buildings.
The cuvée
For Tsarine by Adriana, Karembeu worked directly with cellar master Isabelle Tellier. The result is a blend of equal parts Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier – the Pinot Noir provides the backbone, Chardonnay brings finesse and elegance, and Meunier rounds it off with fruity aromas.
Tasting note
A golden-yellow robe with a lively scent of lemon. A rich bouquet of round fruit and ripe, juicy apples. This fruitiness is balanced by a more structured character that brings a steely, mineral edge. Balanced and elegant, with crisp white fruit, fine acidity and a lively, perfumed finish.
Rating
90 points (Wine Enthusiast).
