Chenin - Cape Creek - Bag-in-Box 3L - Dry White Wine from South Africa

The Chenin - Cape Creek comes from the Breede River Valley in South Africa. The optimal conditions in South Africa, with cold winters and warm summers, provide the ideal prerequisites for good wines.

Aroma and Taste:
Chenin - Cape Creek presents itself in the glass in bright gold with green reflections. Fresh scent of exotic fruits. A harmonious, palatable wine, round in the mouth with light notes of pears.

Winemaking:
This elegant white wine from South Africa is made from the Chenin Blanc grape variety. The grapes are harvested at full ripeness, destemmed, crushed, and fermented for 6 to 12 days. Temperature-controlled fermentation at approx. 32° C. The wine is quickly clarified, filtered, and bottled to preserve its rich aromas.

Serving Suggestion:
This white wine pairs excellently with seafood or as an aperitif.

It has been a long journey from glass as a luxury item - as in antiquity - to today's mass product, soda-lime glass. This type of glass is used for the production of bottles, packaging, drinking glasses, and mirror or window glass (flat glass).
In earlier times, glass manufacturing was very expensive and unreliable. Thus, wine, oil, beer, and other liquids were filled into jugs, amphoras, or leather drinking skins. Only the techniques of glass blowing and glass pressing made it possible to produce bottles in large numbers.

However, glass bottles have serious disadvantages: they are fragile, heavy, require relatively a lot of storage and shelf space, are difficult to seal (the old "cork problem") and even more difficult to reseal after opening, and their environmental footprint is not exhilarating even with consistent recycling.

Good Wine in New Skins
A Bag-in-Box packaging (literally translated as "bag in a box") consists of an inner bag ("bag") made of plastic for the liquid and an outer packaging made of corrugated cardboard ("box") which protects the bag from mechanical damage and light exposure. The liquid is dispensed from the bag via a tap. The contents of the bag decrease without air entering the bag and without oxidation occurring.
The principle was invented in 1955 as a liquid container by William R. Scholle and was probably first used as wine packaging by an Australian winemaker in 1965. Since then, it has become widely accepted, especially in Anglo-Saxon countries, Scandinavia, and the wine-growing country of France.

In New Zealand, Australia, or the USA, a considerable proportion of wine production is already sold in Bag-in-Box. In Scandinavia and Great Britain, in addition to wine, many fruit juices and dairy products are also packaged this way. In Germany, it has so far been popular mainly with discounters selling wines from Southern Europe and for the wine export of renowned German wineries, but the "Bag-in-Box" is increasingly finding friends among us winemakers and connoisseurs.

Bag-in-Box Beats Glass
Bag-in-Box is more environmentally friendly, ecologically and economically cheaper to produce, saves weight and volume in transport and storage (thus fuel in transport) and is easy and good to recycle, the bag in the yellow bin and the box in the paper bin. Production, use, filling and recycling of the Bag-in-Box consumes less material, thus approx. 80 % less energy and less water than a glass bottle. All in all, the Bag-in-Box causes over 80 % less CO2 emissions compared to the glass bottle.

In addition, because of the principle with the bag and tap, no air gets to the contents even after opening, the wine remains enjoyable for at least 4 weeks after opening. There are also no negative effects on the taste due to the plastic of the bag - and wine in a Bag-in-Box cannot cork.

However: Bag-in-Box is not suitable for long-term storage of wine. The Bag-in-Box with wine should not be stored for longer than two years. Therefore, we only offer ready-to-drink wines in Bag-in-Box.
