2018 Gérard Bertrand Heritage 1189 Pic-Saint-Loup
Colour: deep dark ruby to garnet red
Aroma: elegant, fruity-spicy bouquet with slightly earthy aromas of ripe blackberries, blackcurrants, raspberries, dark plums, fine herbs (thyme) and spices
Taste: juicy, concentrated, round and full-bodied on the palate, excellently structured with lots of ripe berry fruit, fine roasted aromas and hints of smoke, leather and spices, powerful, harmonious and beautifully balanced with great length on the finish
Serving suggestion: with game dishes, roasted lamb or beef, stuffed tomatoes, peppers and many regional cheeses
Winemaking: For Gérard Bertrand's Pic Saint-Loup, all grapes are carefully hand-picked, completely destemmed and slowly fermented on the skins, separated by grape variety, so that each wine can develop its varietal and terroir-typical character to the maximum. The varietal wines then remain in the tank for a while longer to complete their malolactic fermentation - before the master personally blends them into the final cuvée. The cuvée first matures in oak for several months, then it is only lightly fined and bottled, where it is stored for several more months until it is released for sale.
