The 2019 vintage is an excellent year with depth and precision at an extremely high level. Almost perfection, this interplay, the concentration without any heaviness, an almost endless finish. It hardly gets any better than this.

Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is located in the famous Saint-Julien appellation on the banks of the Gironde, where the Garonne and Dordogne rivers meet and flow into the Atlantic Ocean. The soils consist of a thin layer of gravel with sandy loess on an iron-rich subsoil with marl and gravel. Saint-Julien is one of the six famous communes in the French region of Haut-Médoc, which may be used as an appellation of origin by the wineries located there on the bottle label.

Aroma and Taste:
The wine of the vintage in Saint-Julien, if not the entire Médoc, the 2019 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is based on 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot, aged 100% in new French oak, with a natural alcohol content of 14.2% and a monster IPT (tannin index) of 88. It is certainly one of the most concentrated Saint-Juliens, with a dense purple hue accompanied by a rich bouquet of crème de cassis, freshly sharpened pencils, damp earth, tobacco, and a hint of spring flowers. Concentrated, full-bodied, and powerful, it has incredible tannins, impeccable balance, and a magnificent finish. While most wineries today play it safe and produce more ethereal, elegant wines that are immediately enjoyable, this winery fortunately continues to produce concentrated, powerful, age-worthy wines, and this heavenly beauty is as good as it gets! It will need a decade in the bottle to reach the first stages of maturity and will evolve for 50 years or more.
