2021 Fides Barbera d´Alba DOC - Pio Cesare

Pio Cesare has been producing wines for 135 years and five generations in its old cellars in the center of the Piedmontese town of Alba. The Pio Cesare winery was founded in 1881 by Cesare Pio. He was a very successful entrepreneur and was inspired to produce a small and exquisite quantity of wines from the hills of Barolo and Barbaresco for himself, his family, friends and customers. Cesare Pio dedicated himself to the terroir of Piedmont and the production of wines of the highest quality. Over the years, Cesare Pio built a flourishing business. His entrepreneurial spirit encouraged him to travel throughout Europe in the early 20th century to publicize and promote Pio Cesare wines. His passport, proudly displayed at the winery in Alba, bears the number 55. His son, Giuseppe Pio, the second generation, found himself in a flourishing winery at the turn of the century. He continued his father's passion and invested in expanding the winery and trade, making Pio Cesare a benchmark for the wines of the region.

Assemblage and Origin:
"Fides," Latin for "faith," stands for our family's great, long-standing faith in the Barbera grapes grown in the Barolo area. The grapes are planted on our family estate Colombaro in Serralunga d'Alba from the most exclusive "terroirs" of the entire Barolo area, where we could easily get a great Barolo. Extremely low yields and strictest grape selection. Production in stainless steel; skin contact and maceration for 25 days. Aging takes place for 18 months in typical oak "botti"; a small amount in French oak barrels.

Taste:
This wine presents itself full-bodied, balanced and rich. With spicy notes and a hint of ripe fruit, it is of extraordinary longevity.

Serving suggestion:
With risotto with ragout, red braised meat, venison and cheese.

TASTING: Full body, structure and concentration. Ripe fruit and a slight spiciness. Balanced and long-lasting. Only a very small quantity is produced year after year. Since 1881, the winery founded by Pio Cesare has represented the highest level of quality and tradition in the production of the famous wines from the Langhe region near Alba. Pio Cesare was one of the very first wine producers who believed in the potential and quality of Barolo, Barbaresco and Barbera and in the possibilities of Piedmont. Since the mid-19th century, Pio Cesare has been one of the top addresses in Piedmont.
