At the foot of Ben Rinnes in Speyside, the....that's right, the Benrinnes Distillery is toiling away and spoiling us with delicious single malt.
It's been doing that since 1826, but not continuously.....in 1829, the flood destroyed it. Rebuilt in 1835 as Lyne of Ruthrie, sold in 1838 and finally renamed Benrinnes.
Unusual here was the triple distillation, which ensured mild, round whiskies, even at cask strength.
Enough of the facts and figures, in my glass I have our new bottling......a Benrinnes from a Bourbon Cask. This is first noticeable in the beautiful rich golden hue.
59.3% is on the data sheet, but you won't find it in the nose at all.
Instead, the ten-year-old malt exudes an incredibly fruity note; a basket of apples and some pear are immediately noticeable.
Liquid herbal honey and a little vanilla round it off.

Creamy and soft on the tongue, the 59.3% briefly flash peppery and spicy and are replaced by honey and fruit dessert in vanilla sauce. A little fudge and apple pie.
At the end, it becomes spicier, the cask makes itself known, and a slight nuttiness paired with a hint of chocolate and orange comes through in the finish.
