10 Year Old Aged Tawny Port - Fonseca - Douro, Portugal

Information: In January after each harvest, Fonseca stores a selection of special quality Vintage Port in small wooden barrels for maturation. These come mainly from their own Quintas and were selected based on their aging potential. A Tawny Port matures in small wooden barrels for several years before bottling. There, the light Tawny Port acquires its typical nutty aromas, promoted by the oxidation process. Fonseca stores its aged Tawnies directly in the Douro region and not in Vila Nova de Gaia. The differences in temperature and humidity between the two areas give Fonseca's aged Tawny Ports their distinctive aroma, strongly reminiscent of butterscotch. Fonseca aged Tawnies are bottled for immediate enjoyment.

Tasting Notes: Fonseca 10 YO Tawny is reddish-brown in color with carmine red reflections and a fragrant bouquet of ripe fruits. Its smooth, silky texture and subtle nuances characterized by fresh acidity and tannic "grip" show themselves to be very balanced and culminate in a long, elegant, and broad finish.

Serving Suggestions: Fonseca 10 YO Tawny serves as a delicious dessert wine and pairs well with almonds, berries, and chocolate. It can also be enjoyed with intense blue cheeses. It is perfect as a grand finale to a meal, the crowning moment of an enjoyable evening, served alone with walnuts or toasted almonds. It is best enjoyed slightly chilled in warm weather.
