With the tenth bottling of our Signatory Small Batch series, we're celebrating a milestone birthday – and we've chosen a little gem for the occasion. "Scotland's Little Gem" Edradour distilled the single malt for this exclusive bottling for the German market in the heavily peated branch of the Highland distillery, Ballechin. It matured in a selection of casks that we chose together with Signatory Vintage for our series. At least three casks are always used. For the Signatory Small Batch Edition #10, it was two First Fill Sherry Butts and two First Fill Bourbon Barrels, in which fruit and peat smoke entered into a delightful liaison.
Just in time for its tenth anniversary, the new edition was fully matured after ten years. Enough time for the limited single malt to draw from the casks. A strong amber hue is the result, as is the complex aroma of this peated bottling with a slightly higher drinking strength. Smoke fans can look forward to a whisky that exquisitely combines glowing embers and warm caramel, rich berry notes and sweet BBQ aromas, as well as toasted bacon and steaming toast.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Strong smoke, glowing embers and sweet sherry fruits. Accompanied by warm caramel and the scent of a freshly opened pack of coffee powder. Underlined by warm almonds and icing sugar.
Palate: Immediately sherry in the form of dark grapes and wild berry jam with raspberries and currants. As the sherry notes slowly fade, sweet BBQ smoke aromas follow.
Finish: Only a slight sweetness remains, paired with toasted bacon bits. Towards the end, more pronounced woody notes, some toffee and warm toast.
