Mortlach, founded in 1823 during a period of great achievements, was the first legal distillery in Dufftown, in the heart of the Speyside region. For 190 years, it remained a secret among whisky connoisseurs worldwide.

Do you know the original idea behind "Signatory Vintage"? Each single cask bottling by founder Andrew Symington was supposed to bear the signature of a prominent personality. Before he could find a worthy signatory, his first single cask Scotch whisky – a 1968 Glenlivet – was already sold out. Symington then abandoned the signature idea, but the brand name remained. His warehouse holds more than 10,000 casks – some from distilleries that no longer exist or that normally only produce whisky for blends. This includes North British from Edinburgh. Single grain bottlings from grain distilleries are extremely rare. One of these exclusive whiskies made it into our newsletter this week: After 28 years in a refill sherry butt, the fruity spirit was bottled on March 4, 2020, into just 283 bottles.
