In 1846 Maison Perrier-Jouët dared to do something Champagne had never seen: a champagne with less than 5% sugar dosage, at a time when up to 40% was usual. This Cuvée K was the world's first champagne in the style we now call "Brut" – and the Grand Brut is its direct descendant.
The wine
Such radicalism was only possible because the grapes from the house's own vineyards were of such high quality that they needed hardly any added sugar – a philosophy Perrier-Jouët remains true to today. Cellar Master Séverine Frerson describes the Grand Brut as a "chameleon cuvée": versatile enough for the aperitif as well as for a main course of white meat or fish in a creamy sauce.
Tasting note
Silvery gold in the glass, a lively, stylish appearance. Floral aromas on the nose, rounded off by fresh fruit and hints of buttery brioche and vanilla. Crisp and light on the palate, with a long, rich and generous finish.
Rating
Repeatedly praised by the international trade press (Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast, James Suckling) for its freshness, citrus and apple notes and creamy texture.
At the table
Fish carpaccio or white meat, as well as crunchy vegetables or tofu – its lively freshness goes with a wide culinary range.
