The Château's vineyards span the Anjou, Saumur, and Coteaux du Layon wine regions in the municipalities of Nueil, Passavant, Cléré, and Vaudelnay. The eponymous Château was built in 1880 and, with its old wine cellars and small turrets, exudes the charm of the past times of Napoleon III. The approximately 130-hectare cultivation area consists mainly of slate, sand, and clay-limestone soils and is planted with Chenin, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, and Grolleau Gris grape varieties. Since its construction, Château de Montguéret has developed into one of the largest wineries in Saumurois and Anjou. This is repeatedly confirmed by numerous awards and medals in the world's most important tastings.
