Pitters White – Pitters – Douro, Portugal

Pitters was founded in 1920 and has been devoted exclusively to port production from the traditional grape varieties of the Douro Valley ever since. Since 2019 the house has belonged to The Fladgate Partnership – one of the most important groups in port, which also includes Taylor's, Fonseca, Croft and Krohn. Pitters White is vinified by David Guimaraens, one of the most renowned winemakers in the region.

Vinification

Pitters White is a blend of white grape varieties from the Douro Valley and matures for around three years in oak vats, where it gains suppleness and character. It is blended in the traditional full-bodied, soft style for which white ports are prized.

Tasting note

Pale straw yellow with golden highlights. On the nose, a combination of apricot and tropical fruit, underpinned by floral and citrus notes. Soft and velvety on the palate, with ripe, generous fruit and a pleasantly crisp freshness on the finish.

Serving temperature: Chilled, between 6 and 10 °C; no decanting needed – ready to drink straight from the bottle.

At the table: The classic aperitif port – enjoyed chilled and neat with olives and roasted almonds, or as a refreshing long drink with tonic water and a sprig of mint. Also an excellent match for tangy, crumbly cheeses.
