Since 1920, Château Léoville Poyferré has been owned by the Cuvelier family and has been managed by Didier Cuvelier since 1979, who secured the support of Michel Rolland. The gravelly sand soil offers ideal conditions for the vines, resulting in elegant, finessed, and fruit-intensive wines. Without a doubt, this 2ème Cru produces the most Burgundian wines in Saint-Julien; Château Leoville Poyferre has consistently been among the top five Châteaux in the appellation since 1989.
In the vineyard, work is carried out according to the guidelines of the SME (Systéme de Management Environnemental). Through sustainable and careful management, H3 certification, the highest level for environmental compatibility in France, has now been achieved.
The red wine from Château Léoville Poyferré is a Saint Julien, consisting of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Sauvignon from the 2017 vintage. Precise and delicious with a unique style.
Taste:
The 2017 Château Léoville Poyferré has a dark, purplish, almost black color. On the palate, it is very fresh, revealing clear aromas of dark berries. Concentrated tannin structure with fine grain testifies to great elegance. The finish is harmonious, and the overall ensemble is a complete success.
Production:
Château Léoville Poyferré 2017 was produced with the utmost respect for the fruit and the terroir. For vinification, the grapes are hand-picked and carefully sorted twice. Fermentation takes place over 21-28 days in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in the barrel and matures for 18-20 months in small French oak barrels before bottling.
Serving suggestion:
Ideal with grilled meat, game, lamb, poultry, and spicy cheese.
