2019 Château Feytit-Guillot – Pomerol
A Pomerol from the heart of the appellation, straight from the Pomerol limestone plateau: Château Feytit-Guillot is a small, family-run estate of just 1.3 hectares – right next to the appellation's most important estates. The property's seven plots lie on limestone soils and the characteristic seam of blue clay that has made Pomerol's terroir world-famous. Owner Jérôme Rivière runs the estate with an unmistakable, unconventional style – while in the winemaking itself his standards remain uncompromisingly high.
Rating:
Wine Enthusiast rated the 2019 vintage 92 points and described it as dense and powerful, with ageing potential beyond 2025.
Terroir and grape varieties
The blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and a small proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon follows the classic style of the Pomerol appellation. The site on the limestone plateau – one of the most sought-after terroirs in the whole Libournais – provides the basis for wines of great density combined with finesse, the hallmark of Pomerol wines internationally.
Tasting note:
Dense, dark garnet. On the nose, ripe black plum and dried fruit, accompanied by notes of dark chocolate. Powerful and concentrated on the palate, with a firm, present tannin structure – a wine with clear ageing potential.
Drinking window:
Recommended from 2025, with further ageing potential beyond.
At the table:
Beef, game (roe deer, venison), poultry in rich sauces; also with wild boar or a hearty braise.
