2002 was a cool, wet, and not very sunny year. Yields were low. The wines show average concentration.
Aroma and Taste:
The color is brilliant, dark, and medium-deep. The wine offers wonderful aromas of fruit and a hint of licorice on the nose; notes of blackcurrants, blackberries, and blueberries exist alongside smoky nuances from oak aging. Over time, the wine has developed remarkable class; the bouquet is ethereal, floral, complex, and intense. The wine starts quite round and rich on the palate. The smooth, silky texture complements the body. This vintage is strongly characterized by polished tannin and a beautiful balance. The elegant, long aftertaste reveals a hint of licorice. However, it is difficult to predict exactly how it will evolve over time. In fact, the 2002 Cheval Blanc is a real surprise. It is complex, intense, and refined.

The 2002 Cheval Blanc SAINT EMILION GRAND CRU was aged with 4% press wine in 100% new oak barrels
and contains 47% Cabernet Franc, 53% Merlot, 0% Cabernet Sauvignon
