Wine Note
The vineyards of the Château extend over the Anjou, Saumur and Coteaux du Layon wine-growing regions in the municipalities of Nueil, Passavant, Cléré and Vaudelnay. The Château, which gives the estate its name, was built in 1880 and, with its old wine cellars and small side turrets, possesses the grace of the bygone era of Napoleon III. The approximately 130-hectare cultivation area consists mainly of slate, sand and clay-limestone soils and is planted with the grape varieties Chenin, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc and Grolleau Gris. Since its construction, the Château de Montguéret has developed into one of the largest wineries in Saumurois and Anjou. This is consistently confirmed by numerous awards and medals in the most important tastings worldwide.
