Pale gold with a green shimmer, finely sparkling, with a bouquet of white blossom and citrus – this Blanc Brut brings the classic craft of bottle fermentation (Méthode Traditionelle) into an everyday price bracket.
Taste
Colour: Pale yellow with green reflections, fine, persistent perlage (the release of carbon dioxide/formation of bubbles in the glass).
Nose: Intense – aromas of white blossom and citrus fruits come through clearly.
Palate: Wonderfully creamy, with a long-lasting finish – the fruit remains present long after swallowing.
Production
Following the Méthode Traditionelle, this sparkling wine undergoes its second fermentation directly in the bottle – the same painstaking process that also gives Champagne its complexity. Several trade sources place François Montand in the Jura, in eastern France; there the cuvée (the blend of base wines) typically undergoes several months of ageing on the yeast (lees ageing), which explains the creamy texture. As a non-vintage cuvée (NV, i.e. without a stated vintage – the base comes from several harvest years), it is already ready to drink, with no further cellaring needed.
Pairs with
Ideal as an aperitif, with light fish dishes, salads with a citrus note or light finger food – its freshness also carries it through an entire menu.
François Montand positions itself as an accessible alternative to Champagne-style sparkling wines made by the classic method – the same painstaking bottle fermentation, but at a price that also allows for uncomplicated enjoyment during the week. A value-for-money tip for everyone who appreciates "method over brand".
