Almond blossom and apricot on the nose, earthy, mineral depth on the palate – on the Kaiserstuhl, Grauburgunder is considered the supreme discipline, and that is especially true at Weingut Peter Briem.
The estate
Weingut Peter Briem is regarded as one of the region's leading Grauburgunder (Pinot Gris) specialists – no coincidence, as around 90% of its range comes from the Pinot family. The vines grow on the volcanic soils of Ihringen-Wasenweiler, the sunniest place in Germany, with more than 1,700 hours of sunshine in summer.
Tasting note
Bright straw-yellow colour. Notes of almond blossom and apricot on the nose. Powerful and expressive, with an intense bouquet. Pleasantly soft on the palate thanks to moderate acidity, yet slender and lively – an elegant Pinot style with a fine mineral note, earthy and expressive.
At the table
Beef and pork, asparagus dishes, Mediterranean cuisine; also with roast game birds in a rich sauce.
