The second release of EMPEROR'S WAY - THE PEATED HERCYNIAN SINGLE MALT WHISKY aims to deliver the next flavor bomb directly in the tradition of the first release. HENRY IV. matured from the first day to the last in selected First Fill European Oak Hogsheads & Octaves, which had previously been used for years for the maturation of the best PX Sherry. If you expect a normal peated malt from an ex-bourbon cask from this distillery, we will have to disappoint you - because the Hammerschmiede wants to tread the KAISERWEG (Emperor's Way) and remain true to its style of "eclectic" whisky.

For this bottling of EMPEROR'S WAY - THE PEATED HERCYNIAN SINGLE MALT WHISKY, they also exclusively chose the best Pedro Ximenez casks and housed the exceptionally full-bodied, juicy, and intensely smoky whisky in a fitting wooden packaging. The namesake, the EMPEROR'S WAY, or Kaiserweg here in the Harz mountains, is also evoked by the edition name HENRY IV. In 1073 (here we also have the total circulation of the edition!), Henry IV fled from Harzburg via the Kaiserweg to Eschwege from the Saxons.

The strong local connection of this single malt is clearly due to the love for its roots here in the Harz region: For this reason, LOCAL BARLEY (barley grown locally around the Harz) of the Catamaran and Golden Promise varieties, as well as LOCAL PEAT (Lower Saxon peat), were chosen, which resulted in a not overwhelming but very solid 25ppm in the malt. The distillate was stored in PX Sherry Hogsheads and Octaves, which provides the exceptional aroma density and very dark color.
