A sun-ripened wine of character from southern Italy: the Menzatia Primitivo Negroamaro Salento IGT brings together two of Puglia's most defining grape varieties in a red wine that combines rich fruit and Mediterranean spice in a round, approachable structure – a wine that has truly earned its reputation as a sought-after representative of Salento.
Taste
In the glass it shows a deep ruby red with dark reflections – a first hint of the density this wine brings with it. On the nose, an intense bouquet of ripe cherries, plums and dark forest berries unfolds, underpinned by fine spicy notes and a hint of Mediterranean herbs. On the palate the wine is full-bodied and fruit-driven, the tannins are velvety and well integrated, and the finish is long and carried by a pleasant fruity sweetness. A red wine that offers both uncomplicated enjoyment and depth for more demanding palates.
Production
The grapes come from the Salento region in the south of Puglia, where the warm climate, calcareous soils and proximity to the sea create ideal conditions for optimal ripening. Primitivo contributes richness, power and intense fruit aromas, while Negroamaro provides structure, depth and a fine spicy component. The result is a red wine with a harmonious, soft structure that is already approachable and is perfectly suited to immediate enjoyment.
Pairs with
The Menzatia Primitivo Negroamaro Salento IGT is a versatile food companion – ideal with pasta in rich tomato sauces, pizza and Mediterranean dishes, grilled meat and BBQ, as well as with antipasti and mature cheese. Enjoyed on its own, too, this fruity red wine is the perfect companion for relaxed evenings.
In context
Salento is regarded as one of Italy's most defining wine regions for powerful, fruit-driven red wines – and the combination of Primitivo and Negroamaro is one of the region's most typical and popular cuvées. It is precisely this unmistakable southern character that makes the Menzatia a sought-after representative of its style: approachable enough for beginners, with enough character for connoisseurs of Italian wines.
