Sessantanni - sixty years. That's how old the vines are that this Primitivo comes from, and that's exactly what the name says.

The estate

Cantine San Marzano is a cooperative winery in the heart of the Primitivo di Manduria zone in Apulia, founded in 1962 by 19 grape growers. The vines for Sessantanni grow in the municipalities of San Marzano and Sava – old vines, deeply rooted over decades, which bring particular concentration to the grapes.

Vinification

The grapes are picked by hand in the second half of September. Fermentation takes place in rotary fermenters at controlled temperature (24-26°C) for 10 to 15 days, followed by 12 months in barrique before bottling.

Tasting note

Intense ruby red. A broad, complex bouquet with aromas of dried plum and cherry jam, underpinned by notes of tobacco. Full-bodied, balanced and soft on the palate, rich in elegant tannins; a long finish with cocoa, coffee and vanilla.
