The estate
Weingut Peter Briem lies on the southern edge of this volcanic range, in Ihringen-Wasenweiler – the sunniest place in Germany, with more than 1,700 hours of sunshine in summer. The dark, heat-retaining volcanic soils give the vines a ripening power more usually found in Mediterranean wine regions. Nothing at the estate is left to chance: short pruning, repeated grape selection and deliberately restrained use of oak make for wines with depth, elegance and structure – powerful, but never clumsy.
Tasting note
Purple-red in colour, full-bodied with restrained power. A fruity aroma with nuances of berries and currant, complemented by light hints of cherry. Fine notes of chocolate and white pepper give the wine its varietal spice. Fine, still youthful tannins on the palate.
At the table
A classic with game dishes or grilled beef; also a fitting companion to hearty Baden dishes.
