Apple pie with cinnamon streusel - freshly baked from the oven. With a Limited Edition, the Danish distillery Stauning has succeeded in immortalizing this sensory snapshot in whisky. For Stauning Rye – Sweet Wine Casks, the experimental distillers from West Jutland built upon their iconic Stauning Rye Whisky. Their full-bodied flagship, made from 49% barley and 51% rye malt, was given an up to two-year finish in sweet wine casks after initial maturation in new, charred American white oak casks.

Originating from Europe's sunny south, three different cask types housed the Nordic whisky. First Fill Marsala Casks, previously holding Sicilian dessert wine, were used, as were casks in which noble sweet Gewürztraminer or the sweet white wine Ramandalo from northeastern Italy had matured. Stauning bottled this fruity summer whisky with seductive aromas of sweet berries, citrus fruits and apples combined with malt, caramel and cinnamon, and a hint of ginger, in March 2022.
