WhistlePig 15 Year Straight Rye is one of the oldest whiskeys from the house and one of the first to receive its finish in barrels made from farm-grown Vermont oak. The three-year Vermont oak finish gives the whiskey the necessary time to develop its flavors to a great depth. At 92 Proof (46% alcohol content), this whiskey is expressive and wiser than its old years.
Assemblage and Origin
Vermont oak barrels are at the heart of this whiskey's flavor profile. Vermont's cold winters and short growing season cause the trees to develop dense growth rings. This tight grain imparts layers of flavor to the rye during maturation. The charring and toasting of the wood by Master Distiller Dave Pickerell give the barrels their special character.
