The Harz whisky is based on 60 percent a blend of light, unpeated malt and 40 percent smoked malt, which was kilned over peat or wood. It matured entirely in selected European Oak Hogsheads, which were previously used for several years to decades for the maturation of the finest fortified and sweet wines (Sherry, Port, Malaga, Amarone, Claret, Moscatel, and Marsala).
Neither colored nor chill-filtered, it develops aromas of malt and chocolate with raisins, roasted almonds, toffee, and fruitcake, as well as the characteristic notes of coffee and tangerines for Hercynian Single Malt, at a perfect drinking strength of 45.9% vol.
